CCS can access and provide Total Mobility - Taxi Vouchers, or as some people call them - DPA vouchers, for our clients.
What is the criteria?
It is simple: you have to have a disability, be registered with an approved Disability Agency (e.g. CCS) and be either unable to use public transportation or to have access to a personal vehicle.
Who do they cover?
The vouchers cover all age ranges and types of disability.
Are there exceptions?
The scheme allows for what is called "partial exemption" for vouchers. This means that while a person can use public transport or their own car most of the time, there may be times when they can't; poor night vision or a psychological condition are examples of this.
Who pays?
Environment Canterbury and Transfund pays one half of a taxi fare. There are two levels of subsidy, a maximum of $30 if the person with a disability is in a power chair and $15 for others. The Disability Allowance usually covers the remaining half, but WINZ requires that you keep receipts to establish the cost of your travel.
What can you use them for?
Social and recreational activities, doctors or medical visits and shopping are the main activities. Travel to work and education may be covered by other agencies, such as Workbridge or the Ministry of Education.
Where can you use them?
Christchurch and environs, Ashburton, Timaru, and Waimate. They can be also used when you travel to other centres of New Zealand where Total Mobility operates.
Does it cost to apply?
Yes. CCS charges $25.00 for each initial assessment and this assessment also requires a Disability Declaration signed by a Doctor; there may also be a cost for this. A $25 charge applies to all 30 month reassessments.
Who does the assessment?
Your Key Worker, a Service Coordinator or a worker for your age group if you are an "Information Only" client.
