In the first week of July, CCS held its awareness week with the specific focus on the “Caught Campaign” and a more general focus on Accessible Communities. As part of this region’s celebration of Awareness week, four Breakfasts were held (Timaru, Christchurch, Blenheim and Nelson) to which a wide group of people were invited including governance groups, community groups and agencies, politicians (local and national) and government organisations. “In excess of 300 people attended the four breakfasts, which we’re very pleased with. I did a 20 minute presentation, speaking about the ‘Caught’ campaign and played the web movie, which received an extremely good response.I spoke about the work we did in the community and the challenges we face, both in the community and gaining the financial support we require. I also spoke about what the future held for CCS and the disability sector,” said David Matthews, Regional Manager for the Upper South Region.

Disability Awareness Coordinator, Rachel Mullins, also took the messages out into the community with a number of active displays in the large malls around the city. Rachel had volunteers assisting her to get coverage of the city. She had many conversations with people who were interested in finding out more about CCS and its work in the community. This is the second year Rachel has done this for awareness week and is pleased with the response she has received.
